Time and Persistence
Time is inherently destructive because it is relative to change. If nothing changed a clock would be useless and a chronology absurd. However defined, “progress” can only be temporary. The universe is governed by impersonal forces completely indifferent to human needs and aspirations. Civilization does not grow naturally like a plant. It is an imposition, requiring endless struggle without final victories. In some future eon there will no trace of us.
